We go back to 2002, the year when Belgian designer Valéria Siniouchkina graduates from La Cambre Art school of Brussels and receives the prestigious Henri Bendel Prize at the Hyères International Festival of Fashion and Photography. She works as a photo stylist for various magazines for a couple of years, but in 2006 she starts her own label, GIRLS FROM OMSK. Philippe Koeune, who works as a graphic designer, joins the team in 2007 as manager and illustrator/graphic designer.
Omsk (Russia) is the birth town of Valeria's father. The idea behind the brand name was to create imaginary girls, who travel from city to city where they get inspired and evolve in their style. On their journey the girls from Omsk have been to places such as Los Angeles, Mexico, Berlin, Moscow and recently Oxford.
Now back to 2012, the year where GIRLS FROM OMSK changes to (simply) OMSK and where the collections which used to be defined as 'streetwear with a designerwear approach' have evolved into 'street couture', representing what the label is today: strongly rooted in its time, proposing a blend of casual and designer wear with a fresh and accessible twist, for both women and men. Still playful and edgy, but also with a touch of elegance. This is strongly visible in OMSK's latest collection (SS/12) OMSK / Yalta, which contains a lot of strong prints for men and structured and straightforward cuts for women.
