PRETTY YOUNG CREATIVE THINGS - NEPANTO

Posted on: 17 February 2011 by Josine | Art / Pretty Young Creative Things

Pretty young creative things - everybody knows one of 'em. The girl next door, who doesn't only look fly, but also is a creative entrepreneur. And most of the time you don't even know it! Every now and then we put one of those ladies in the spotlight. The following lady is the third artist showing her work at the second Pretty Young Creative Things expo - this Sunday at Jimmy Woo.

Nepanto was always free to pursue her goals, whether she wanted to be a lawyer or garbageman. Her father is a bassplayer and occasionally turns his shed into an art gallery, because he likes to paint as well, mom is an art history student and then there's her brother, who is a musician (and doing really well at the moment!). Quite a creative family... No surprise Nepanto turned out to be a talented painter.

After drawing for years Nepanto always told herself she couldn't paint. But when she got the materials to paint for her 21st birthday, she gave it a chance. 'The first couple paintings sucked balls indeed, but slowly I was getting there', practice was the only way how...

Inspired by people and other artists she developed her painting skills and love for art in any form. Old art, fairytales, mythology and far away places inspire her to create the most beautiful work. 'You can be born in 1700, be long gone now and still inspire young people today. It is infinite almost, you know?'

You will recognize her work by one returning form, a triangle. She loves triangles, as she says herself: 'They are superhardcore and abstract and they have three angles and that is why I love them. Because they're awesome'.

Curious about Nepanto's work? Check her out at the Pretty Young Creative Things expo, this Sunday (February 20th) at Jimmy Woo (21:00 - 23:00) among Marlis Sluijter and Alissa Nicolaï
